Veterinary Notes for Dog Owners

Author: Trevor Turner
Average review score:

A must for dog owners
Whether you own a dog as a family pet, or for showing or breeding, whether you have one dog, or several, this is the book you just HAVE TO HAVE. It covers everything from simple first aid, to severe illnesses, it's a bible for dog owners. The content is condensed into simple easy to read terms, with diagrams, pictures and photographs. An index at the back takes you straight to what you are looking for, or just simply opening the book can get you to the particular chapter or subject you are seeking. My particular copy is quite old and well used. I have had dogs for many years and this particular book has proved helpful in many situations and it's one part of my collection which is constantly pulled out of the book case. A must for dog owners!

Voices of Death: Letters and Diaries of People Facing Death--Comfort and Guidance for Us All (Kodansha Globe)
Published in Paperback by Kodansha International (November, 1995)
Authors: Edwin Shneidman, Philip Turner, and Deborah Baker
Average review score:

Clssification - Literary Human Patrimony!
Voices of death, is probably the best book I've ever read. Dr. Schneidman presents in this book the timeless subject of death offering us a rutter that enables the reader to understand and demystify the death phenomenon.

A book that teaches the reader the basic processes of dying with dignity for those who have a terminal illness or have a friend or relative or a known person who is facing diseases like cancer or leukemia.

How to face death with dignity, and what everyone should know in order to give the comfort to a dying person.

Dr. Schneidman, in his unique beautifully writing style, presents the concepts of grief, self-mourning, pre-mourning, and mourning. Deaths by suicide, execution and malignancy, offering us "maps" that helps us to avoid the reefs of life and to make this trip a safe one.

The documents, diaries, letters and suicide notes illustrate the thoughts and give us the real picture of the reality of the human mind when facing death, helping us to understand death as a natural and dignifying part of everyone's passage in this world.

If this book could be classified, I would classify it as a Literary Human Patrimony

Western Heritage, The: Brief Edition Combined
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (12 October, 1998)
Authors: Donald Kagan, Steven Ozment, Frank M. Turner, and A. Daniel Frankforter
Average review score:

A great Western Civ. Book
I bought this book for my Western Civilization class and I was very happy with it. The authors did a great job. Particularly pleasing was the way the book before each chapter had the timeline for all the events covered in that specific chapter. This helped one get a better grip on what happened first and what came after that. I would recommend this book.

What Makes a Rainbow?: A Magic Ribbon Book (Novelty Book Series)
Published in Hardcover by Piggy Toes Press (May, 1900)
Authors: Betty Ann Schwartz and Dona Turner
Average review score:

An excellent book for even the youngest of babies!
My daughter (8 months) has really enjoyed our reading this book to her. The "magic ribbon" part is pretty cool - with each turn of the board-book-type page, another colored ribbon is drawn across the pages. It starts with a red ribbon, and goes through each of the colors until there is a rainbow of ribbons. The last page is a cardboard popup of a rainbow and 1/2 sun.

The story: a little rabbit asks his/her friends what makes a rainbow. The ladybug says red, the fox says orange, etc. So, it's a fun way to talk about colors and some animals as well.

We're looking forward continuing to read this to our girl as she gets older.

When Young Melissa Sweeps
Published in Hardcover by Peachtree Publishers (March, 1998)
Authors: Nancy Byrd Turner and Debrah Santini
Average review score:

A Book to Brighten Any Dusty Corner
With broom in hand and chores to do, Melissa ties on her dancing shoes. She curtsies to her slender partner, and the dust begins to fly. With a gay gavotte and a Highland fling, she reels into her work. Dishes clatter and kittens scatter before the flurry of her broom. Optimism lightens her humble duty, and brightens the room just as surely, as Melissa cleans the room.

This book reads with a breathless exuberance, and as the pages swiftly turn, Melissah appears almost animated. Its contagious energy invites the reader to attack life with lighthearted determination.

The Whole World's Watching : Decarbonizing the Economy and Saving the World
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (March, 2001)
Authors: Martyn Turner and Brian O'Connell
Average review score:

Excellent and Intelligent Read
I originally purchased this book in London and read it on a flight back to New York. It has been out in England for a couple of months and has been reviewed in the press over there. The book outlines a radical but intelligent solution to the problem of global warming, without shutting down the world's economy or adopting the draconian mandates of the Kyoto Protocol. This is more timely now, given Bush's decision to end US participation in the climate change negotiations. I should also add that the book is actually very well written and quite funny. It would certainly irritate the most righteous environmentalists of the world, and for that alone it is worth buying and reading.

The Winning Moment: Paintings of the America's Cup, 1851-1987
Published in Hardcover by W.W. Norton & Company (October, 1986)
Authors: Tim Thompson, Ranulf Rayner, and Ted Turner
Average review score:

Beautifully Sailed
Tim Thompson has created a format that shows us the Americas Cup matches that untill 1983 favoured the United States, and then Australia's failed 1987 defence. Each painting has an explanation of the race and people that participated in them.

The written history of this sporting event would fill a large warehouse but as they say, and is beautifully executed by Tim Thompson's paintings, A Picture Says A Thousand Words.

This format would be re-released as the Americas Cup soon moved back to America, then to New Zealand and now of course, Switzerland.
